| Green Concept

The recent focus on the concept of a sustainable human environment is certainly not new. The necessity of such an approach is what has come to the forefront of modern thinking. The Green concept including green roofs, rainwater capture, sustainable resources, recycled materials, solar powered homes, etc, have become the catch words of this decade. The mentioning of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in the book of Genesis, to the sod houses of the American prairie in the middle of the 19th century, demonstrates how long this concept has endured.

One of the most promising of these ideas is the green roof with the capability of rain water capture. The first project in which PSF was involved that had almost all of the features of a green roof with rain water capture was the Crestpark Project in Dallas. This project featured a 10th floor plaza composed of approx. 4,000 SF of surface area with about 25% composed of a green roof concept. In addition this project was located above living space. The initial purpose of these roof top projects were more one of aesthetics rather than cooling the roof or rain water capture. However, all of the components necessary for the success of these projects are well known. It is a small step to tie the various aspects of these roof top projects to a collection cistern, therefore allowing the collection of rain water to be recycled as irrigation for the planting material.

Wether it is designing a green roof with a rain water collection system, installing a solar or wind powered electrical system, PSF has the experience and knowledgeable personnel to provide a complete system for a single family residence or a community.
